BETA CIRCUS publication available
The Beta Circus project was put together by four partner organisations – Bússola in Portugal, Teatro Necessario in Italy, Ludifico in Serbia, and Rigas Cirks in Latvia – with two central goals: to address a lack of advanced professional training for contemporary circus in their countries, and at the same time to support access to new aesthetic trends in the circus field, for artists and audiences. As a starting point, the focus was on magie nouvelle.
From 2020 to 2022 the project selected 12 key-emerging artists to join a medium-term capacity building process supported on European mobility and cooperation, in partnership with relevant mentors in the magie nouvelle field. The process is now documented on a publication by John Ellingsworth, available for digital reading for free.
