Colorno hosted a journey from surface to depths

In the sun-drenched days of late summer, “NEL BLU – Surface to the Depths” captivated the hearts of Colorno (Italy) on the 31st of August and the 1st of September 2024 concluding the second artistic experience. This evocative performance, staged at Piscina L. Casanova during the XVII edition of Tutti Matti per Colorno, wove a powerful narrative of human displacement through the medium of water, intertwining circus arts and participatory engagement.

Under the thoughtful mentorship of Nicola Borghesi and Enrico Baraldi, a diverse ensemble of talents came together. Jonathan Gunning & Robbie Blake of Fanzini Productions [IE] and Caterina Moroni [IT] led the charge, transforming the municipal pool into a vivid metaphor for the world’s waters – from the mysterious depths of the oceans to the serene puddles where children play. Their work invited the community to explore profound questions: what propels us to venture into the unknown, what compels us to stay rooted, and what do we leave behind in our pursuit of new horizons?

Throughout this immersive experience, the residents of Colorno, often overlooked in the hustle of August, found their town’s heart in the shimmering reflection of the water’s surface. As they dived into this collaborative journey, they were not merely spectators but active participants in a collective exploration of what it means to be human. The resulting performance was a stirring blend of happening, spectacle, and communal game – a reflection of the shared quest for understanding from the surface to the depths of our existence.
